JAZZ BAND Under the direction of Michael O'Rear, the Mon- roe Jazz Band includes a variety of different instru- ments such asg saxophones, trumpets, trombones. drums, bass, treble guitars and a full rhythm section. Some ofthe Bands responsibilities include performing at school functions and concerts as well as appear- ances at local Jr. High and Elementary schools. . ,, ,t , .. W A ,f ' -49 A MONROE MATH ASSGCIATION Members of the Monroe Math Association have strong interests and a strong involvement in math- ematics. Members participate in district, state, and nation-wide mathematical competitions. Students are able to meet with others who share common interests, obtaining a mutual benefit from sharing new and in- novative ideas in their field of interest. Socializing and comraderie are also an integral part of membership in the Monroe Math Association. W E 'Q' E lI,': . . .. I-v7 ' l .f -s KNIGHTS AND LADIES Knights and Ladies is a club composed entirely of seniors who combine academic achievement with par- ticipation in scholastic activities. These students must achieve and maintain a grade point average of not less than 3.0. Some of their responsibilities include usher- ing at graduation, the faculty brunch, distribution of homecoming flowers and a variety of other school activities. womans!!

CALIFORNIA SCHOLARSHIP FEDERATION The California Scholarship Federation is an organiza- tion composed of students who have attained high aca- demic standards. Members provide tutorial services and other various student activities. These students are re- sponsible for many academic activities including the Knowledge Bowl and many grade level activities, such as brunches and banquets. ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE E.S.L. is an academic program designed for foreign students who are attending Monroe. This year, several countries are represented in the program. Some of the goals these students hope to achieve are a higher quality education, a better understanding and more fluency in the English language, and graduation from Monroe. l42 ORGANIZATIONS -4, .. -. ,Y . . ECOLOGY AND CAMPING CLUB Under the guidence of Mr. Miller, the Ecology and Camping Club often travels to many wilderness areas in California to practice their skills in Backpacking, Camp- ing, and Mountaineering. PLAY PRODUCTION Students involved in play production produce and direct short plays, usually during periods one to four. All members of the class play integral parts in each mini-production. Quite often these mini-productions were once famous theatrical presentations. Play pro- duction is under the guidance of Mr. Flack. MUSICAL WORKSHOP In a combination of music, dance, and singing, Musical Workshop aids in the development of enter- tainment skills. During the Fall semester mini-musi- cals, small-scale performances of Broadway produc- tions are the main interest, while the spring semester's concern is the major-musical production. By develop- ing skills in the performing arts, students are able to express their individual gifts and talents. 2' -W. , K r M, We It A g am, ZW . U I f AT fait ' PRINT PRODUCTION Print Production, under the supervision of Mr. Ro- zum, serves Monroe by printing items of importance to the school. The students involved print the school newspaper, The Doctrine, and tickets for various school functions, including dances, the major musical production and all sporting events. l
