Mrs. Marguerite Karlin Mrs. Jannis Livingston Mrs. Frema Rood X Mrs. Darlene Loiler Mrs. Judith Shapiro This past year has been the most innovative one our de- partment has had, relates Mr. Keefer, department chair- man. Most exciting was the acquisition, with Mr. Milleris help, of a Resource Center. This is the place where the English teachers can pool and share ideas and materials to improve the classroom experience. It also contains re- cordings and filmstrips that help make the classes more in- teresting. In addition, the drama classes have developed a Children's Theater - students going to public libraries and grade schools to perform for the children. Student ac- tors also visit elassrooms in English and Social Studies to put on performances. One group of 10th grade teachers has organized a series of mini courses in their specialties fspeech, journalism, and literaturejf,

They worked with the local community colleges, Valley and Pierce, through field trips and guest speak- ers. In addition Mrs. Holzers' vocational training program worked through Guidance classes to promote community job-training resources, particularly West Valley Occu- pational center. Health Home Ecorwmzcs Mrs. Maurene Rigby A new class in Childhood Educational Oc- cupational Training was established this year. Children ages three to five attended three days a week. Students enrolled had an opportunity to work with the children, plan lessons, prepare nutrition, supervise playground activities. On completion of the course students will be prepared to work as Teacher Aids in Public schools.
