MR. She has designed greeting cards, custom designed dresses, worked on experimental designs for Lockheed, and has managed an exotic tea room in Florida, spe- cializing in tropical dishes. She is now teaching home- making, and plans on doing extensive research on homemaking curriculum. This goal will be pursued at the Board of Education office this summer. Mrs. Ferguson was born in Mexico, Missouri. She re- ceived her Bachelor of Arts Degree at Florida State Uni- versity, and finished her graduate work at the University of California at Los Angeles. ROBERT TEDDY BURTON, Chairman Fishing is the favorite spare time activity of Mr. Elmo Smith, chair- man ofthe Industrial Arts department. He spends most of his summers in the high Sierras, fishing with his sons. Mr. Smith attended the University of California at Santa Barbara, where he attained his Bachelors Degree. Then he attended the Uni- versity of Southern California, where he received his Masters Degree. He started his teaching at Ventura High School in Ventura, Califor- nia. He has also taught at Dorsey High School in Los Angeles. Mr. Smith has taught many different classes, such as machine shop, metal shop, stage craft, and industrial math. During his spare time, Mr. Smith works on the Youth Service Com- mittee. He opens the campus so people can use the equipment and the playground. He also helps with the sports nights, and he is the official timer for football and basketball games. Mr. Smith, Mr. Mandrino, Mr. Petty, Mr. Hampton, Mr. Weber, Mr. McKay. A Jack-of-All-Trades is Mrs. Mary Eleanor Ferguson. years. MR. ELMO SMITH, Chairman HQMEMAKING Mrs. Ferguson, Miss MacPherson. AGRICULTURE Mr. Robert Teddy Burton was born in Long Beach, California. He received his Associate of Arts Degree at Los Angeles City College and his Bachelor of Science Degree at the University of California at Los Angeles. He went to California Polytechnic, where he got his Master's Degree and Administrative Credential. He has been teaching for eight ln his spare time, Mr. Burton enioys swimming, golf, traveling, fish- ing and skiing. Mr. Burton is the coach of our gym team. Mr. Burton spent one summer touring the United States, and he has also been to such places as Hawaii, Guam, and Saipan. Mr. Burton has been married for thirteen years, and he and his wife are very proud of their two sons, ages four and six. l9

mu-me-d i MR. PETER KANONCHOFF, Chairman Mr. Peter Kanonchoff was born in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, but has been in California since 1943. He enrolled in the University of Cali- fornia and received his Bachelor of Science, and his Masters' Degree in Education. Mr, Kanonchoff has taught math at Reseda High School, Los An- geles State College, and the University of Southern California, Here at Monroe, he teaches all types of business classes, and also office management. Two nights of the week he teaches a class in 3 office machines at Pierce Junior College. I Mr. Kanonchoff is also Coordinator of High School Drives and As- I semblies. His duties as coordinator are to supervise and direct school l functions. In his spare time he enioys photography, gardening, ham radio, building radio-controlled boats and planes. He and his wife are flying enthusiasts, also. While he was in the Army, Mr. Kanonchoff traveled widely. He has visited nearly every state in our Union, the Western Pacific, Australia, New Guinea, Guadalcanal, the Philippines, and Japan. In the future, he plans to visit Europe. LANGUAGE DEPARTMENT: Ileft to rightl Row 'l: Mrs. Brand, Mrs. Velardi, Mrs. Schreiber, Mrs. Jermakian. Row 2: Mr. Bennett, Mr. Memoli. The southern part of Italy was the birthplace of Mrs. Lee Velardi. At the age of nine, she and her family came to the United States. Mrs. Velardi attended the University at Akron, Ohio, where she received her Bachelor's degree in Spanish, and then attended the University of Michigan on a scholarship, where she obtained her Master's degree in Spanish. She also received a Master's degree in Italian at the University of Illinois, While completing her Master's degree in Italian, she taught Spanish at the college. Mrs. Velardi also taught at the College of Mount St. Joseph, which is a school for girls at Cincinnati, Ohio. She then, for two years, attended the Uni- versity of Mexico in Mexico City. Her next step in education was to complete her degree in Spanish and Italian. She started to work on her Ph.D. in Spanish, but got married before she completed it, Her husband is an assistant professor of art at San Fernando State College. During her spare time, Mrs. Velardi enjoys reading, and is a great aficionada of bullfighting. She also enioys outdoor sports of all kinds. ART A trip to the Orient terminating in darkest Africa highlights the future traveling plans of Mr. George Dahl. This tour will be the climax of his extensive travels, which have included trips to every state in the Union, Central America, and nearly every European country, Mr. Dahl, a native Californian, was born in Los Angeles in l927. After receiving his Master of Arts Degree from Los Angeles State College, he taught at Bancroft High School in Hollywood, Rochfort High School in Rayon, France, and Munich High School in Munich, Germany. While in France, Mr. Dahl studied art. The subiects being taught by Mr. Dahl are pho- tography, commercial art, fine art, and stage art. Mr. Dahl, Mrs. Folz, Mrs. Webster. MR. JOHN DEICHMAN Standing: Mr. McMillan, Mr. Barkelew, Mr. Maclachlan, Mrs. Ruth Kautzenbach attended the University of Southern California and Uni- versity of California at Los Angeles, where she attained her Bachelor of Music De- gree. She is a native Californian, having been born in Los Angeles, and now re- sides in Canoga Park. Mrs. K., as she is known to all, used to show miniature Doberman Pinchers and show horses. ln her spare time, she plays bridge and ping pong and enioys swim- ming, Mrs. K. taught at Fremont High School in San Pedro, California, and also at Van Nuys High School, before coming to Mon- roe. Some of the subiects she has taught are Senior Problems, Choral Music, Music Appreciation, and Girl's Glee. One of her Girl's Glee classes had the privilege of singing with the l.os Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra. Mr. Plukos, Mr. Ray. Seated: Mrs. Foote, Miss Pudden, Mr. Posa, Mrs. Kautzenbach. MRS. RUTH KAUTZENBACH COUNSELING Mr. John Posa of Washington, Pennsylvania, has been leading an interesting life since leav- ing Washington Jefferson College, when, in his senior year, he was drafted into the Army Air Force as a meteorologist. For eleven years after retiring from the Air Force, he taught mathematics and Driver Educa- tion at John Marshall High School in Hollywood. While advancing his interest in baseball, by coach- ing the team, he chanced to meet Dr. Settle, who was coaching the rival team of Wilson High School, Mr, Posa, while on sabbatical leave from his heavy schedule, attended the University of Cali- fornia at Berkeley and spent ten months at SAN QUENTIN . . . giving psychology tests to the in- mates.
