SETTLE We review with pride this first year at James Monroe and the many accomplish- ments we have made since the opening day. Our reputation as an enthusiastic, energetic, and ambitious high school has spread rapidly throughout the city. Our tremendous school spirit mushroomed as we became The Vikings of the Valley, and this spirit seemed to dominate the many organizational proiects we undertook. Many of these activities will be traditional throughout the years. I am especially proud of the very pleasant and friendly attitude on our campus, the academic atmosphere in our classrooms, and the cooperation and understanding that has developed between the students and the staff. Because of this very fine beginning, we can safely predict a bright future for James Monroe High School. l l xv' xf' 'W l!v?' WB:-f MRS. NORMA GIBSON, Girls' Vice Principal MR. While its overtones are fairly pessimistic, its style is gay and light-hearted. Set in France in the period between the World Wars, Thieves Car nival tells us that to overcome the bitterness and boredom of life, we must play the comedy of life with all the zest of youth. This is the final note of the play, it is happy young lovers who triumph, always. CAST I The Thieves: Peterborno ........ ...... M ax Franklin Hector .. ....... Gary Srery Gustave ......
