In a figurative sense, we teachers have been master musicians, taking you as wild freshmen and, by exposing you to the great thoughts and impressions of the past, fitting you for harmonious living in your world. 'Ihat we have tried hard is certain. To what extent we have succeeded will show itself in your lives. lust as the compos er looks forward to the opening performance of his opera. forgetting all the hardships of his labors in the triumph of his work, so do we teachers glory in the achievements of those whom we have helped to mould. he past is never entirely forgotten. even as we look anticipatingly toward the future and toward our new lives. In these four short years, we have changed from children, in a small sheltered world, to adults, fully aware of the vastness of our responsibilities and the important part we must play in our new world, as the instrument plays its part in the orchestration of a melody. Although many members oi our class will soon be scattered over the world, they will eventually come to rest in colleges, factories and offices. But wher- ever they may go, Monrovians oi the class of Iune '51 will remember all those extra-special sounds of Monroe and whisper to themselves, it was music . . . music . . . music . . . 6
