JAMES MONROE HIGH SCHOOL Ellie Sveninr lirnmenahe Lg, - g-E HE Prom had been our star for months. We could hardly ' believe that January Pourth had come! It was only our fear of being too early for a dramatic entrance, that kept us from hurrying down-town the day before. As we drew up to the Hotel Pennsylvania, we saw other couples that we knew, ascending the steps to the lobby. M In the confusion of removing our wraps, and powdering our noses, we noticed little else, until we reached the grand ballroom, Woman- like, we delighted in seeing the beautiful splashes of color the girls made against the black and white tuxedoes of their escorts. The green palms helped to give an impression of people in a well-known world. The splendid playing of the band, the dancers on the floor, and those talking in the fringes of the ballroom were facets in one great diamond of gayety. Crowds drifted inf and out during the evening. Everyone seemed to know everyone else, and was glad of the fact. . . ll!! ! l i l At one o'clock the Senior Class President led the Senior Promenade. Our throat felt as though we could never keep our sadness down. Our eyes were very shining and proud, We felt as though we were ages olderg as though we had undergone all the experiences known to man. And then the Prom was over. Groups separated as they left the hotel, and went the way of every crowd: to dine, and to dance again. We waited awhile, and saw some leave. Then we too departed.
