For four long joyous years we have eagerly awaited the time when we should have handed to us our ribbon bound diplomas, and with Dr. I-Iein's , W gg J parting handshake still warm in our memories be sent out V4 into the world to receive our share of its gifts. But now that we are on the threshold, ready to take our leave, we look back and our graduation assumes a different aspect. We no longer look upon it as a happy adventure, an emotion very akin to sorrow takes hold of us. We have had some difiicult times at Monroe but on the whole we were happy. Will we be so happy in the new fields that we are setting out to conquer? Will there be so many people willing and eager to give us a boost over the hard places? ln life's hard race, however, we have an advantage over the other fellow. We have the priceless heritage that is the gift of James Monroe to every graduate. We of Monroe have been taught by the fine example set by our faculty, the right way to treat our fellow man, to be square, fine and never to cause anyone unnecessary sorrow. It is these things that set us apart from others, that mark us as Monroe Graduates. We are proud. LEONARD E. DAL NEGRO Senior Class-Twenty one
