SOCIAL STUDIES Social Studies is a re- quired two-year course. The main objective is to familiarize students with U.S. History and to help them understand the Working system of our government. Students also study psychol- ogy during the year. The department included A. Mr. Morgan discusses U.S. History with a group of studems. B. Mrs. George supervises voting as G. Stegman gives M. Habas her ballot. Mrs. George, department head, Mrs. I-Iassenger and Mr. Abrahamson. ln Octo- ber, Mrs. George was in an automobile accident and was forced to remain out for the rest of the year. Mr Morgan then joined the staff to finish out the year. l

The math staff consists of Mr. Bergmann, depart- ment head, and Mrs. Ward. Mrs. Ward commented, lf you are majoring in the medical field I suggest you take more than one year of math. At mid-year, Monroe math students scored above average. ln March, juniors and seniors participated in the MAA national math exam. ln the spring, seniors participated in an exam at the University of Portland.
