For with each page, we grappled with word choice, we struggled with tenses, we fought over captions — be- cause we believed in the power of these words you read right now. We wanted them to be as meaningful and memorable as the photographed face of a friend. We hoped that you would savor them and feel the joy of perception. If you can read this, thank a teacher.
