GRADUATION, 1947 Motto: Tonight We Launch; Where Shall We Anchor? CLASS POEM Goodbye, old walls that sheltered us And nursed us for this day; Goodbye, you years which tied so fast. And dreams which would not stay. W ' e scatter now to seek the new, Down roads that beckon far; To what dim distance will they lead? W ' hat gates will we unbar? What new horizons will unfold New vistas thru the years. And will we find a surcease there G)f laughter or of tears? No matter now, our feet fall light. And proud our heads and high; And may each sight the goal he seeks. Find strength to reach it by. I’envoi Goodbye, old walls, you seem so still And sadly brooding as we go. You surely would not have us leave With saddened step or spirits low. Rest tranquil that our hearts still hold. Amidst the new that crowds them so. The happy days—the days of old. The lovely days at James Monroe. — I- F- F . J 8 h
