Coach L.Elliot. With a senior infield of returning players and junior pitcher Gary Bryant. Madison’s Varsity Baseball team entered league action with promising beginnings. Despite the mid-season loss of catcher Dave Thompkins with a leg injury, the Hawks con- tinued to be a formidable foe in Western League play. Valuable players could be found in the field as well as at the plate. Doug Smith, Bill Clark. Jim Burrow, Al Skoglund. Steve Watson and others made up the infield and reserves. These Varsity players were able to keep their opponents’ scoring to a mini- mum. Added to the skills and spirit of other team members and led by the efforts of Coach Bob Roeder, the Warhawks man- aged to be tough competitors in baseball action. 202 Athletics
