Warhawks Place Third in County For the first time since 1969, the Hawks opened the C.I.F. Playoffs at home. Drawing defending champion Helix in the first round, the Warhawks, seeded fourth in the tournament, prevailed. 80-76. Led by Sophmorc Rock Lee’s 25 points, the Hawks beat Helix for the first time in the school’s eight year history. Playing at far-away Southwestern College, the Hawks ran over their second round opponent, Castle Park, 76-57. Led by Rich Hastings, Steve Brown and Gary Moreficld, the Hawks destroyed the Trojans easily. The Sports Arena was the scene of the semi-final match between Madison and Number One Ranked Monte Vista. Although Madison led for most of the game, a spirited Monte Vista rally took the contest in the last seconds, 62-60. Rich Hastings led the way for the Hawks in his finest effort of the season. Although marred by loose officiating, it was still an exciting contest. Playing their final game of the year, the Warhawks won third place in the county with a 70-59 victory over Patrick Henry. Bob MacKersie scored 19 points in this fine team effort. The Hawks had proven this year that they were at least the third best team in the county.
