The Chieftains arc threatening on the Warhawk 20 yard line. Can the Hawks hold? That was one of the many exciting moments in this year's thrilling 7-2 victory over highly ranked Clairemont High, the first since 1964. Front the opening moment, when the Hawks marched somberly onto the field, to the final crushing tackle, the Maulers from Madison High were never slopped. The game itself, a scoreless affair at half- time. was decided in the final quarter. Lex Stoyanow led an 81 yard drive, mixing short passes to Bill Clark and Steve Watson and rushing for key gains himself. The drive was capped on a 7 yard dash by Garry Mor- lelt. Although Clairemont threatened late in the fourth quarter, they were held with- out a touchdown by the rugged Madison defensive crew. The win. unquestionably a team victory, pushed the Warhawks into the league lead and capped a brilliant season. Madison defense stops Chiefs forno gain.

Madison Makes C.I.F For the first time in the school’s history, the Warhawk Footballers made it to the CIF Playoffs. But, unfortu- nately, they were paired against the county’s number one team, the St. Augustine Saints. Although the Hawks put forth a valiant effort, they were overwhelmed by the Saints' powerful forces, 38-7. The lone Madison touch- down was scored by Tualatai Sami, a converted line- backer, after a series of thrilling runs.
