Seniors Sweep Around Juniors... Six Points! “Two stars! Four stars! Six stars! A comet! All for the Juniors.. echoed throughout Madison stadium as a Senior-Junior battle took place on the gridiron at the 1970 Powderpuff game. Eighty girls spent a month after school and on weekends in sweats and pigtails drilling for the big game. Coaches, elected by the teams to teach them all they could about football, were as excited as the girls. Three o’clock was opening kickoff time and started the four ten minute quarters. The only score of the game came in the first quarter. BELOW: Wiih the Pep band playing The Stripper , Junior cheerleaders Bob Mowry and Brian Hcrz arc forced to carry John Martinez off the field before he goes too far. RIGHT Mary Pat Rivcroll, Junior quarterback, runs an end sweep for a five yard gain. The gymnastics team under the supervision of Mrs. Anne Rosser, Miss Sandy Tschudi and Miss Nancy Hubert divided into begin- ning, intermediate and advanced levels. The members participated in vaulting, floor exercises, bal- ance beam stunts and performance on the uneven parallel bars. The season lasted from March fifth to May seventh and the teams had meets every Tuesday and Friday. Throughout March and April the teams attended many city- wide competitions. The modern dance club under the direction of Mrs. Toni Harwood provided entertainment for many occasions. One evening in January and another in February the mem- bers displayed dancing talents for patients in a convalescent home. In February they also entertained at the Girls’ League Dad-Daughter Banquet. Hie group attended a modern dance symposium early in March. Under the skillful coaching of Mrs. Bonnie Charles and Miss Jane Venghaus, the G.A.A. hockey team finished off their season with a 6-2 record. The two losses were to Kearny after a re-match. Mem- bers of the team attended a field hockey clinic at Fallbrook Union High School on February sixth to learn many new skills and tech- niques.
