Activities Brighten Curricular Routine Attending classes, eating lunch, leaving school, and doing homework—sounds boring, doesn't it? At Madison this pace of work, work, work isn’t very popular; eager students involve themselves in lunch-period and after-school activities. Students are offered a choice of enter- tainment during their lunch periods. Regularly held open A.S.B. meetings. “Career Day” lectures, pep rallies, and musical and comedy programs have been available for them to attend. The movie, “Anastasia”, and more band concerts were new this year. Club-sponsored events, such as the “Tug-of-War” and “Slave Day” have successfully kept the hour-long lunches from being wasted and monotonous. After school all Warhawks can partici- pate in some school activity. Sport meets and after-game dances have proved most popular. Plays, musicals, formal and informal dances, too, have been part of the fun and activity of ’71. BELOW LEFT TO RIGHT. Rosan DcLconardo. A Time for. . . ATHLETICS “Touchdown! Touchdown!” Mad- ison’s bleachers rocked with contagious excitement. That's where it really was - competition. In every sport, actual competition was where coaches, indi- vidual team members, students, and spectators combined in support for Madison’s Warhawks. All shared ele- vations of victory and depressions of defeat. Winning was an oftcn-occuring e- vent in all of Madison's sports. Better records came about due to behind the scenes hard work. Students conditioned, trained, practiced long hours, listened to coaches - they became athletes. At times the mighty were humbled and the lowly raised on high. A myriad of emotions combined to make this year’s competition the spec- tacle it was for Madison. Fall and Foot- ball - bulging muscles and an occasional al limp identified our Warhawks. School spirit was deeply felt as the team enjoyed their best season on record and went on to C1F playoffs. Winter and Bas- ketball - the players had a leaner look - on the court and off. A taller team with fewer players, more flowing action, quick exploitation made this the major sport. Spring and Baseball - the crack of wood on horsehidc, umpires’ decis- ions. spectators with sunglasses com- bined to make baseball the sport of spring. Yet the cycle docs not end here. Fall sports training has already started. Athletes will condition throughout the summer to make next fall the begin- ning of another fine athletic year for Madison’s proud Warhawks. LEFT - A majority of Ihc students at Madison who participated in athletics belonged to one of ihc two sport-based organizations • GAA and Lcttcrmcn.
