Planes and Pawns Stir Interests Two of Madison’s less conspic- uous organizations arc the Air- foilers and the Chess Club. Hach group is deeply involved in its ac- tivity. The Chess Club is composed of Madison’s best chess logicians, including many players who find various chess game derivations, such as speech games, blind chess (War), and an interesting version developed by a member, Randy Dorian, which is played on a donut- like board and is called toroidal chess. Members of the Airfoilcrs devote their efforts to the construction and flying of model planes. They arc very fortunate to have Mr. Mather as their sponsor. Mr. Math- er has been a regular member of the U.S. microfilm glider team, which is ranked as third best in the world. ABOVE LEFT: Victor Wibc and Mike Schold examine a glue joint. Latin Feast Caps Active Year for Romads Can wc work with metal swords?” questioned Latin Club members who wanted metal swords instead of wood ones for this year’s banquet games. The wood swords broke in the middle of the games last year. The games including foot races, chariot races, and cata- pulting took place in May. but unfortunately without metal swords. In order to raise money for their annual banquet the Ro- mads sponsored a chariot race, tug-of-war, catapult contest, and of course many delicious bake sales. The banquet took place in the Madison cafeteria. The games occurred first in the order of events followed by the honor- ing of the gods. During the feast- ing, plays were put on and danc- ing girls roamed around the tables. BELOW LEFT: Romad members Debbie Gcbhardi and Victor Godyn donned Roman togas for an after school bake sale.
