Choir Sings Christmas Concert in Balboa Park Madison’s concert choir, chosen to sing at a community concert in Balboa Park, was the best the Madison music department has ever seen. They performed in many special programs during the Christ- mas season and throughout the year. The choir gained superior rat- ings in competition due to the fine directing of Mr. Davidson and the determined, hard-working attitude displayed by the group. Symphonic Band Earns Superior Rating at Festival Concert Band followed the trend set by the Jazz Ensemble, formerly Stage Band and Honor Ensemble, formerly Mad- rigals and adopted the more sophisticated title of symphonic band. The band earned four “ones , the highest possible score, in district competition at Southwestern College. The band demonstrated their superb sight-reading skills and gave a superior overall performance. Their high rating sent them on to compete in the regional festival. This year Mr. Wolfe organized a string ensemble as a new addition to the music department. They entertained in var- ious programs during the year. The group scored very high in competition in the Solo and Ensemble Eestival at San Diego State College. LEFT: Concert Band Director. Mr. Wolfe conducts during a daily rehearsal.
