Warhawks Cheered to Victory by Pep Club “Get me down from here!” cried a girl stranded on top of the goal post amid blue and white crepe paper streamers. Before each football game the Pep Club decorated the goal posts in the school's colors. The Pep Club helped the cheerleaders throughout the year by promoting school spirit. They painted pep signs for display at sports events and cheered all the Madison teams on to victory. BELOW: Pep Club Officers - President Debbie McBraycr. Marching Hawkettes Spice Half-Time Shows A covered wagon rolling across the field? A start A cowboy? An arrow'? What is it? It’s the 1970 drill team. Colonel Miriam Ander- son and her efficient Lt. Colonel and captains would settle for nothing less than precision and perfection for 1970. and they got just that. The La Jolla Christmas Parade, the Old Town Christmas Parade, the Mother Goose Parade, the Shriner’s Game, the Band Review, and our own half-time shows kept them frantically busy. Before school, after school, and even during lunch periods, the girls rehearsed to reach the point of precision and perfection that earned them an excellent score in the annual Autumn Band Review. Eight more enthusiastic girls in white satin hats with navy blue and silver uniforms joined the Madison marching unit as banner carriers. The well-organi zed team headed by Barbara Amster proudly re- presented Madison, displaying the school’s name throughout the city. Captains-Kathy Greene. Pat Ncwcomc. Linda Cam- ba. Lt.
