Sherry Bain, and alumnus Jack A comb at last year's Nominating Convention. “Fight the issue, not the personality! shook the A.S.B. office walls as Mr. Hoagland's voice boomed out over the dis- cussion in progress by the thirteen member A.S.B. Executive Council. The results of these meetings, taking time from sum- mer months and a class period per day. have made the 1970-71 school year one of Madison's most exciting and fulfilling. Many members spent their lunch period in A.S.B.. munching apples and sandwiches between work and discussion. Sophomore Orientation started the year for wondering tenth graders. They met officers, cheerleaders, and learned of the many functions at school. Opposition to the morning flag ceremony was one of the many issues brought out in the open A.S.B. meetings. The meetings provided a time for complaints or problems to be talked about and brought before the whole school. The final decisions of many issues were left up to in- terested students who came out to vote. The Catamaran Hotel was the setting for the bi-annual S.D. A.S.C. Conference. Twenty-five enthusiastic representatives from Madison spent the day throwing ideas back and forth with students from all over San Diego to try to improve problems common to all schools.

“Toyland 70” Prelude to Christmas Holidays Midnight at Montezuma Hall and it was pouring! But Toyland 70 was such a success that no one minded the rain. The seventh annual A.S.B. Ball was the object of two major changes in tradition: first, the name from “Snowflake Fantasy” to Toyland 70, and second, the loca- tion from the Balboa Park Club to San Diego State's Montezuma Hall. Its motif was carried out by toy soldiers, candy canes, and a great big Christmas tree in the middle of the room. Climaxing the A.S.B. spon- sored event was the crowning of Joyce Blanco as A.S.B. Ball Queen, Bobbie Churchill as junior attendant, and Becky Jordan as sophomore attendant. December 18 is certainly a fond memory of this year. RIGHT: A.S.B. Ball Queen Joyce Blanco and Mike Norman.
