A Time for. . . CLASSES Parlez-vous Francais? If French was your interest this year, you enjoyed Madison's excellent foreign language department. Or perhaps you were mo- tivated in art. history, or mathematics. Madison students were as varied as the courses. To meet individualistic needs, Madison offered a wide range of subject matter. Proficient faculty members formed a team of educational experts, striving to satisfy the needs, interests, and curiosities of their students. Certain sights and sounds became so familiar they were taken for granted. Pencils being sharpened, papers shuf- fling. assignments being written on the board, crowded hallways - all these were part of the everyday life of a Madi- son student. What held their attention was the subject matter, first gleaned from assigned texts, then expanded and illuminated by teachers' comments, and finally absorbed in the give and take of discussion. Here a student could have learned to run a lathe or wrestled with the tougher points of calculus. Learning shorthand and singing in German were done in the same building. There was something for everyone. Whether grad- uates overhaul engines or attend the country's most prestigious universi- ties, they prepared in any case by what they have learned at Madison. LEFT - Madison administrators were Vice Prin- cipal Dr. Channdl. Principal Mr. Byrnes. Vice Principal Mrs. Stubbs, and Vice Principal Mr. Volz. BELOW • As foremost administrator at Madison, the telephone was an important aid in Mr. Byrnes’ busy schedule. Classes 97
