This year, with Mr. Cacciapaglia as sponsor, the Student Government Association was in¬ volved in sponsoring the Homecoming Dance, concerts, the Cans for Christmas drive. Ice Skating sessions, and picnics. As a result of the efforts of the S.G.A., music was broadcast in the cafeteria during lunch, and thp P ' -incipals Advisory Council was reorgan¬ ized. The S.G.A. The International Relations Club at Madison participates in Model United Nations simulations on both a local level, at Fairfax High School, and a national level, at Washington D.C. and New York City. In between events the club stays active by; raising money for the New York and D.C. assemblies, entertaining speakers from the State Department and various embassies. Also, members of the IRC use games such as Diplomacy and a U.N. simulation prepared by several members to further an understanding of international relations. The ' 75- ' 76 school year looks like a good year for the IRC with a second place award and a honorable mention for representing the United Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates as sovenars from our first assembly at Fairfax High. science dub The Science Club is an organization designed to promote interest in the sciences through activities such as field trips, lectures, demonstrations and a variety of educational projects. Ac¬ tually it stands for Future Home¬ makers (not Homebreakers) of America. F.H.A. is not just another home ec club; we ' re quite different from that. We function as more of a service club than anything else. Noted for our high membership, we have won the Federation Chapter of the Year title for two years in a row now. F.H.A. is responsible for activities at school such as the Miss Madison Pageant, Ice Cream So¬ cial, S.P.T.A. night, bake sales, Initiation, Parent Daughter Ban¬ quet, and many others. We also like to get involved in charities and fund raising, so we enjoy helping out with such activities as the Red Cross, Muscular Dystrophy, and visiting at Holly Hall. F.H.A. owes its success to all the hard-working new and old members and our two terrific sponsors, Mrs. Pat Walo- chik and Mrs. Sarah Glaum (Home Ec) for making us great year after year! apostles dub We call ourselves the Apostles Club. Like the first Apostles, we are followers and disciples of Christ. When we get together, we sing, we read from the Bible, we talk, and we pray. We ' re finding out that the answers to today ' s problems can be found in a book that was written long ago; because it ' s the eternal word of God. We ' ve got a Great club! We have close fellowship, and a lot of fun! We ' ve found that God is real and that he lives in us! Praise the Lord! Left to Right. For fun we had an ice cream party at Farrells, dinner at Sir Walter Raleigh, an outing at Rehoboth Beach, a sketching party at the Washington National Zoo and visited the Torpedo Plant Art Center in Alexandria where we watched many artists at work in their studios. Led by sponsor Mr. Glen Bowman, team captain Mike Hutchins, his twin Pat, and Glen Perkins entered the WRC Studios confident and prepared after nearly three months of practice. Pitted against Montgomery Biair and Yorktown, Madison ' s team did well in the opening rounds. Victory was close in the final seconds, but the final scores found our team in second place — close, but not close enough. A good effort, though, and one that portents well for that eternal next year. 117 orchestra Scales to scales — concerts to concerts — ' 76 proved to be another spirited year for the Madison Orchestra. From its first organization five short years ago, the Madison Symphony Orchestra has blossomed into a 57-member team. Madison High can also boast a more select group, the Sinfonietta of 20 string and wind players. The dedication and enthusiasm of our conductor leader, Mr. Fred Blake, along with that of the orchestra members and their parents are responsible for a steady upbeat performance. This year, following tradition, we started the season off by playing for the Miss Madison Beauty Pageant in October. We played for Vienna in the Community Center in November, the SPTA Christmas Concert in December and in Febru¬ ary an exciting Concerto Concert which featured several talented solo musi¬ cians from Madison, in the spring it was a Pre-Festival Concert two weeks before a Superior rating from the judges at the Orchestra Festival. Besides practicing for the many concerts, the Orchestra and its backers worked diligently earning money to run the symphony and raise the huge sum needed to send the orchestra to Bermuda for the International Music Festival next year. It is a wonderful opportunity and we have Mission Bermuda well underway. The year ended with a Spring Concert at our high school and a clinic and concert at Madison College in Harrisonburg. The AYD organization members are elected students who, upon completion of 40 hours of train¬ ing, go into the sixth grade class¬ rooms of the various community elementary schools. The mem¬ bers hold discussions with these sixth graders and they answer their questions concerning the transition from elementary school into a secondary school. The task of the members is to make this transition a little easier for these students. This year Madison had one of its best seasons ever. Under the direction of Chuck Sell and his assistants, Madison ended the season with an 8-2 overall record and 6-0 to win the Potomac District race. This year Madison had a balanced attack in both offense and defense. The offense moved the bail this year, but not only on the ground. The pass was the weapon this year. With Rocky Clarkin quarterbacking and Jeff Hoston doing the receiving, Madison ' s offense was tough. During the year Clarkin tossed a total of 14 touchdown passes, 1 2 of which went to Hoston. In the running department Madison had one of the best this year with personnel like D. Hall, J. Spicer, C. Polk, and T. Cooke. Key blocking from the offensive line, though, made a big difference. In past years Madison has been strongest in defense. Madison had an excellent defense again this year, in fact, one of the best in the area. A real key to this defense was the linebackers J. Hail and K. Weisenburger. Quickness in this area and on the line forced mistakes on which Madison capitalized and controlled the tempo of the game. Congratulations to the entire team for the best football season ever at Madison and a special thanks to the coaching staff who did a fantastic job this year. 243 hawks win seven in a row! offensive defensive teams David Hail Rocky Ciarkin Jack Spicer Ken Weisenburger Tom Cooke Scott Forbes Running Back Quarterback Running Back Linebacker Fullback Middle Guard Richard Arens Terry James Tim Knicely Ron Woods Joey Hall Wayne Williams Defensive Back Defensive Back, Kicker Defensive Back, Fullback Defensive End Linebacker Center Keith MacVey Jack Civilikas Matt Miller Brett Leighty Offensive Guard Offensive Tackle Defensive Jackie Offensive Tackle Tim Thompson Roger Marsden ' Offensive Tackle Defensive Tackle Chip King Defensive End Jeff Hoston Split End, Defensive Back Kurt Burch Tight End madison crushes marshall 38-0 varsity football coaching staff Head Coach Mr. Chuck Sell. The Junior Varsity team compiled a tough 4 and 1 record to take second place in District competition. In the past two years Mr. Moss has developed a tough Cross Country team here at Madison.
