Boys and Girls of the Class of june 1960: Now that the last stage of your high school life has arrived, your choice of Shake- speare as the theme of your year book seems a very wise one. Shakespeare's insights into the problems of people are so subtle that critics forget that they are dealing with the representation of fictional characters, and treat his creations as though they were Hesh and blood people. In the same way, you have undoubtedly found yourself arguing about the motives of Brutus, Hamlet, or Macbeth as seriously as though you were considering those of acquaintances, or members of your family. One of the most often quoted figures of speech of Shakespeare is his equating of life and the stage. It occurs in several places in a variety of forms. For young people entering upon careers, it points up the roles that life holds for them. To a great degree, the choice of whether an individual becomes a star, a supporting player, an extra or a stage hand depends on his own actions and character. The theatre of life is vast, its opportuni- ties infinite, its hazards omnipresent. I hope that you have the Wisdom and the persistence to bid for and secure leading roles upon the stage of life. May happiness and good fortune attend you. Cordially yours, Principal
