F8110 a gray hair for each one of those years. He feels that he has mellowed with age. He is sure that the faculty has changed but he states that he is sure that the students of today and those of twenty-five years ago are just the same. except that those of today are a little more conscious of the world around them. BEST INSTRUCTOR-Mr. Davis and Mr. Rockowitz The two bright lights of the faculty who were voted by their students as Best Instructors took their victory philosophically. They both agreed that. t'It's the students who make the teacher. They also agreed that they like teaching and consider it a profes- sion of the highest order but they both thought that the mone- tary returns of a teacher should be great enough to give them financial security as well as professional satisfaction. FACULTY BEAUTY-Miss Foley Our prettiest teacher possesses many virtues which add to her more than pleasing looks. The cute. pert and petite redhead is a graduate of Hunter College and enjoys working with high school students. As far back as she can remember she has always longed for the job of calling out floor spots, refereeing volleyball games and all the exhilarating tasks that go into the making of a gym teacher. It is two and a half years since Miss Foley started teaching at Madison and in this short time she has won the hearts of all the students. Her extra-curricular activities are widespread and include photography. reading and travel. She is pinned to some lucky West Point cadet. MOST CHARMING-Mr. Jaffe Mr. Bernard Jaffe. one of our faculty celebrities. is also a celebrity in the outside world. Widely known as an author, his books have sold all over the world. When queried as to how he felt about being elected most charming teacher, he said that he was, very happy and proud to be accorded this honor. When asked to what he attributed his success in the election, he said that he is sure that there were some undercover elements in the senior class who were working for him. MISS TANNENBAUM-Most Interesting Teacher Miss Tannenbaum thanks the Senior Class for her popularity but states that she would have preferred to have been elected most beautiful. She says, Somehow most interesting seems to me as some sort of a queer title-it sounds strange-and a little questioning. If I had my choice, she said, I would have chosen a more con- formed position. 5 K N fdl Az .x , Xl! Nl' 4 f ' ew M I 'V , VS f 'XV 'Vi IW W! . y 1 . , ,W I W at Sv NNIQA, X fm . PORT OF EMBARKATIGN All is confusion. . .hundreds of people rushing hither and yon in a seeming unending rush . . . Ahoy, the bridge . . . the great ship is getting ready to embark . . .eight hundred and fifty clean and neat public school graduates are about to embark on the greatest adventure of their young lives, their four years in high school. The elementary school autograph books are still new and shiny, and the students entering the great halls of Madison still have fond memories of their elementary school years uppermost in their minds. First, they are herded into the auditorium, which. they all remark, is much bigger than the one they knew in public school. They seat themselves in rows. and notice that, unlike their previous experience, there is nobody pushing them along to see that they do what they are supposed to do. They are expected to know what to do .... A friendly-looking man is introduced to them, and they are told that this fine man is going to be their grade adviser. A sweet lady tells them about the chances for guidance that are offered in our school. Anybody who is interested in playing an instrument or singing can apply to another man. Gee, this is really confusing ..., Now they are handed paper, which they are told are for I.Q. examinations . . . much brain power is expended on the various abstract problems and then they are finished for that day. But. they are told to report on a certain date in the autumn for their first day of, our regular high school career. With a wonderful summer behind them they are refreshed and ready to face the great adventure. Into the wondrous halls filled with hundreds of strange faces and strange rooms. They see the trophy case which houses the awards won by previous Madison students, and they wonder whether they will add anything to these awards. Large elevators and confusing room numbers are just a few of the obstacles that faced them. Finally, after much confusion, they find their way to what they have been told is THEIR official room. Here they are greeted by a smiling official teacher who efficiently conducts them through the seemingly end- less stream of forms that have to be filled out. After this is done the period bell rings. They shuffie off to their first class, the begin- ning of their high school career .... The lines have been cast off . . . full steam is up and the boat is slowly but surely starting on its four year voyage .... Bon Voyage.
