1 Mr. Max Newfield To the Boys and Girls of the Class of January 1950: For a class graduating in the hrst half of Madisons txventyffifth year as a school, the adoption of the theme of l'Silver Anniversary is both gracious and appropriate. However, the passing of a quarter of a century of a schools existence can have for you only hearsay or secondfhand significance. Many of your teachers can hlithely refer to events of a quarter-century ago, or even longer, with the direct and sharpened recollection of one's earlier life that comes with passing years. The privilege is one you will undoubtedly find pleasure in exer- eising regarding the present, when another txventy-live years have rolled hy. We of the faculty hope that your sentiment toward your school will have more than surface meaning. We are confident that it will live on, hased on the durable human contacts that you have made, on the friendships that you have huilt up, and on the sense of having shared in a meaningful common enterprise. Cordially yours. llflllfflltlf
