The Voyage of the Class of 67 As graduation draws near, we find that all our dreams have become reality. The first of June sym¬ bolizes the culmination of alJ our hopes during the five years we have spent at James M. Bennett Senior High School. As eighth graders in a new school, we set traditions and began a new spirit un¬ like any other school in this area. Our very first task was that of writing a constitution and electing school officers to lead us. John Andrews, as first Student Council President, guided us through the first year, as we adopted the clip¬ per ship as our symbol and red and white as our school colors. The highlight of the year was the dedication of James M. Bennett Junior High School, later to become our senior high school. In ac¬ cordance with this dedication, we were host to many guests at teas and banquets throughout the year. Much to our dismay, September, 1963, heralded the arrival of a n older class, destined to become the first graduating class of James M. Bennett Senior High School. In September, 1964, we returned to Bennett as sophomores. This was our first year of varsity sports and our many defeats were therefore understandable. However, this year was very import¬ ant because it prepared us for the more difficult and more important opposition we would later face. As juniors, we realized the preparation necessary for our all-important senior year. Our first ma¬ jor activity was the production of our junior class play. Fair Exchange , followed by the school musi¬ cal, Anything Goes. On February 27, we received our class rings, and on April 2, honored the Class of ' 66 at the Junior-Senior Dinner Dance. We were honored by having five National Merit Com¬ mendation winners. On September 7, 1966, we began our first last day of school. We welcomed Alex Niklison to our classes more as a new friend rather than as an exchange student. Under the guidance of Russ Dashiell as class president, we formulated plans and activities for the oncoming year, including Arsenic and Old Lace , and the successful production of Brigadoon. In preparation for our first Home¬ coming, we designed and built a float depicting a clipper ship and won first place. Sharon Cannon reigned over the festivities as Bennett ' s first Homecoming Queen; and later, Donna Aydelotte ruled as Holly Ball Queen. May 5 brought a riotous day to New York, and one week later was the Senior Prom. Mardi Gras was the theme. May 24, we had our first practice for Baccalaureate and Graduation at the Civic Center. The Baccalaureate Service was held the following Sunday, May 28, with the Reverend J. Robert Mackey as the speaker. May 30 marked the end of our classes; and Graduation on June 1 marked the end of our five wonderful years at Bennett.
