Text from Pages 1 - 72 of the 1959 volume:

DEDICATIO .54 BO BBY WHITE We, the Fifty- Niners, dedicate the 1959 .Iamesonian to the loved one who passed on before us. He stood as a personification of the strength, dignity, generosity, and practicality that characterize any definition of William James. It is in these terms and not merely in those of devoted services -- that we think of Bobby White in this dedication. He was loyal to his school and classmates, and an active member of the football team, Choral Society, Band and 4-I-I Club. Out of respect' and gratitude for his memory at William James, the seniors are proud to dedicate the 1959 Jamesonian to him. I cannot say, and I will not say, That he is dead. He is just away. With a cheery smile, and a wave of the hand, I-Ie has wandered into an imknown land And left us dreaming how very fair It needs must be, since he lingers there. And you--oh, you, who the wildest yearn For an old-time step, and the glad return, Think of him faxing on, as dear In the love of There as the love of Here. Think of him still as the same. I say, He is not dead - he is just away. GIRL AND BOY OF THE MONTH Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them.' We are not surprised, for this is how it should be. We cannot afford to become complacent in education. Within a democratic society om' desired way-of-life depends more on the quality of our schools than on any other single agency. When more people and various community agencies become critical of our educational pro- gram and become deeply concerned, rapid progress is inevitable. Educationally speaking, we are living in a very exciting and thought-provoking era where technological, social and scientific changes are constantly being made and where the development of critical thinking is a vital part of the educational development of every boy and girl. These changes are constantly demanding new ways of life for all of us. Whether our schools should take the lead in spearheading these changes or whether it should serve as supreme interpreter of changes will become an educational concept which must be decided. . In this annual which you have published for us, there are clear indications of our attempted progress toward an improved educational program at William james High School. The past year has been an eventful one and you are to be commended for offering us an opportunity to capture' these memorable events by making available a tangible means through which we may relive these wonderful experiences. May this publication reveal to all who view it, vivid segments of our school program and serve as a source of inspiration to you and others to give their continued support for the development and expansion of an im- proved school program, within this ever-changing, dynamic society.
