A new Auto Shop, modern in every detail, has just been completed. The other shops are being rehabilitated. Many other minor improvements have been effected. This is indeed pleasant news. But even more pleasant has been the success of many members of this graduating class in winning scholarships, thus insuring con- tinued education for themselves. In some cases this further education would not otherwise have been possible. These scholarships were won in competition with many students from various high schools. V The entire personnel at Bowen is happy because of these successes. All of us share in these successes. We know that these winners are being repaid for their efforts during their high school days. We sincerely hope that their efforts in college will achieve similar success. To all, I say you, too, can be successful. Your success can be in the field of citizenship, a field which embraces the most important phases of life. These are your relations to God and to your fellow man. The measure of success for each of you will be in the degree to which you work out these relations in your daily living. My sincere wish is that each of you will be truly faithful to God and to your fellow man. Very sincerely yours, M Gy!! Principal Mr. Hearne addresses the P.T.A., inspects thc progress of the new auto shop, greets a Bowen graduate, attends a student party. 1 ,........-n-n VUILLIAM P. GOLDBERG In the years to come, on some occasional quiet evening, as you turn the pages of this book and recall the many incidents and activities of high school, you will relive the glorious and carefree high school days of your youth. The pictures and words of this annual will bring back with keen and knowing interest your former associates, favorite club, the teams on which you played, and perhaps a former charmer of the heart. You will see, also, through your powers of memory, the classroom setting, the little variations in your former teachers' mannerisms, and if you are with former classmates, you will discuss all pet peeves which were so involved in your life, for it is the only recorded instrument through which you may continue to vividly retain the years you spent at Bowen. May your days ahead prove to be as fruitful, invigorating and thought-provoking as the time you spent at Bowen, and may they also be happy and prosperous ones as you journey through life. fy? .I- ic Assistant Principal Ten gc Marie F. Who are the MEN IN WHITE? They are, of course, Bowen's own stage crew. These boys have the job of setting the stage for the various pro- grams held by the school. They are responsible for the beautiful picture which is created by their proper and clever operation of the lights. It is their duty to run the public address system and their aim to make the voice sound as natural as possible and audible throughout the audience. You will find that the boys in the Stage Crew, under the supervision of Mr. H. Brandenburg, are to be at your service at any time. They are available for all daytime shows, and give freely of their own time for evening performances. 'MISS SCHNACKENBERCFS DIVISION First row: B. Wittmer, N. Timm, M. Tatone, M. Segel, N. Stevenson. It seems only yesterday that we entered Bowen. Even as freshies we looked to graduation. As freshies we worked hard at our classwork, and par- ticipated in only a few activities. In our junior and sophomore years, we took ad- vantage of all activities. Students who were eli- gible for National Honor Society worked harder than ever. Bowen dances were one of the activities we seldom missed. Senior year came too soon to suit us. Maybe we were impatient as freshies, but graduation came too quickly. The Prom, which was held at the Edgewater Beach Hotel, was a wonderful and memorable night. Graduation-the organ played-girls sniffled -'and the ceremony began. We walked up to the stage, received our diplomas, and walked out into the world of reality. Ken sings. In cap and gown. Mr. Hearne on Class Day. Emil gives Jesse his gavel. C'laAA H1Af0l'lf September 6, 1949 was the first day of a four year course in learning, and in participating in activities. To many of us it was the most fearsome day of our lives. Maybe we were green freshies , but we were proud of that fact. Some of us were told about the swimming pool on the roof , the elevator for students to the fifth floor . Although we thought of it as being l'mean , we did it when we became seniors. During our sophomore and junior years we strove to join every club that was available. These years also meant hard work for students who wished to enter National Honor Society. We cheered our teams to victory, and started to at- tend Bowen Socials. Senior year arrived with the taking of class pictures. Everyone wanted everyone else's picture. The only problem was that no one really wanted to think of it as their last year. Our Youth on the job Day , was enjoyed by every senior. The Senior Prom, which was held at the Knickerbocker Hotel, was the next activity on our program. Moonlight and Rosesu really fitted that perfect june evening. Senior Award Assembly brought many awards to outstanding students. The class picnic was the last activity for all of us. It was a gay and beautiful outing at Tremont Park, and gave us all a day of enjoyment, and pleasure. June 24, 1953, was one of those days we'll never forget. As we walked up the aisle to receive our diplomas we thought back to the good old days . No matter how we fought, tears came to our eyes. This was the night when we entered the world and left the Bowen student body.
