l: Q R E W Q R D James Monroe once said, A tree, virtuous and enlightened people must know well the great principles and causes on which their happiness depends. Where in all the world can you tind such a cosmopolitan population, such a melting- pot ot all the nations ot the world, as you find in America? Withal, you tind the Amer- icans living under a great, unparalleled democracy, living without tear ot a tyran- nical dictator, living a happy lite. We, as young people to whom the re- sponsibility ot the tuture ot this democracy is entrusted, should be thanlitul that we can loolc torward to that ideal Americanism. It is our duty to see that the freedom, virtues, and enlightenment characterizing the Amer- ican people are not impaired.
