ln Appreciation eEoReE M. LYNNE y The retirement of Mr. Lynne last November marked for him the termination of twenty-two years of teaching, all of which have been spent in Bowen's machine shop. Under his careful tutoring many boys learned the machinists' and toolmalcers' trade. l-lis conscientious worlc coupled with his quiet nature served as an example for the students whose characters he had the oppor- tunity to help mold. Mr. Lynne is one whom Bowen has missed. Six ELIZA P. HALL Miss l-lall, a member of our faculty for fourteen years and the director of journalism for twelve, left Bowen on voluntary retirement in February. lt was through her untiring efforts that the Bowen Arrow grew from a monthly leaflet to its present six-column weelcly form and hundreds of students learned the rudiments of newspaper make-up. ln addition, Miss Hall taught English classes. Small indeed, then, is this, our record of ape preciation for the multiplicity of services she has rendered Bowen.

BOWEN BRANCH Formerly South Chicago l-ligh School On South Chicago Out on the marsh and wasteland, Built on lndian soil, Came a teeming metropol' city From the depth ot human toil. From the shores ot the crystal lake came Peace, The cloud-blown sky gave Might, And the prairie grass was the resting arm For the city built in a night. On the boundless Indian meadows With its tents against the sky, Rose a Spire, a tort, a homestead: Soon buildings looming high. And now l no lndian tarriesg Machines replace the lea, But power reigns: the gods are good On the banks ot our inland sea. Carol Oberg. Five
