i The Grease Painters' Club The Dramatics class was reorganized, upon the return of Mr. O'Keeffe to Bowen last semester, as the Grease Painters' club. The new club immedi- ately made Bowen dramatic history by producing the now famous Royal Family. Because of the fine manner in which this play was directed and acted, the director and two students were awarded scholarships in a nationwide contest. These schol- arships were for the summer session in the school of speech at Northwestern University. During the semester the new plan of tryaouts for membership in the dramatics class for seniors who had no opportunity to take public speaking was announced. The requirement that juniors and sophomores must complete public speaking with marked success before entering the dramatic class was also declared at this time. Page one lvzzmfred four' At the regular posthseason party given for all the members of the dramatics class two new plans were made public for the first time. The first plan was that each actor who had completed the season with success in the opinion of the director should be awarded a Certificate of Dramatic Art, signed by the coach and the principal. The first fifteen engraved certificates ever to be given were then awarded. Following this came the announcement of the establishment and first bestowal of the Frank W. Stahl Award for Dramatic Art, to be given every semester for the actor showing greatest ability, effort and achievement. Numerous appearances before school clubs, local church and civic organizations, prominent partici- pation in Bowen's Open House Night, and finally the notable presentation of The Queen's Hus- band, marked the close of the Grease Painters' second successful season.
