l l ,Malta From 8 to 17 November, OWENS and other ships ofthe SIXTH FLEET visited the port of Valletta, Malta. During the visit, members of the ship's crew took part in community relations projects with the USS COLUMBUS CCG-125 and USS MC- CARD KDD-8225. The men from the three ships helped to paint and repair some rooms in a local orphanage and staged an exhibition softball game at the request of one of the youth clubs in Valletta. 0 On 28 November, OWENS departed Malta to return to Naples for a tender availability from the. USS SHENANDOAH CAD-26j. After leaving Naples on 30 November, OWENS and USS BORDELON KDD-8815 proceeded in company to Izmir Turkey for a port visit from 3 to 7 December. In Izmir the ship was Med-Moored to the sea wall at Cumhuriyet Circle, very much in the midst of the city's port area.
