' ' 9 n Y u - - rx ' - Soon the approach of final exams and class prcnrcs sxgmfred that our hrgh school career was half over and with growrng tendencies toward sobrlety of char acter we bade farewell to a happy year Thrrty nme strong the Class of 54 returned to the halls of J B H S m Sep tember 1952 wrth the realrzatxon that rt was now an upper class Greemes were looked upon w1th an almost motherly alfectron and the chrldrsh behavior of sopho mores was treated with amused tolerance Fall electrons boosted Ray Hollenshead to the posrtlon of presldent of the class wrth Joe Taylor as vrce presldent Emogene Fxlklll as secretary and Linda Benchoff and Ben Krelfer as financial chairman We were a bit wary of the five new members of the faculty but they proved to be all that one could desire rn a teacher Soon xt was trme to plan for the unlor Senror Banquet and Prom Making the plans was a hard job for no one could agree However wrth a consrderable amount of compromrslng both the Banquet and the Prom were highly successful Fmal exams were over and lf was time for the graduatmg class to brd fare well The Commencement exerclses made us realrze that we would soon be stepping rnto the shoes of the departrng semors And so our junior year closed somewhat quietly A seemrngly short vacatron brought fall and the fam1l1ar grind Incrdently this year was the home stretch for most of us POIIIICRI orgamzatron returned Ray Hollenshead to the residency while and Ben KICHCI' contmued rn the oilices of secretary and financral chairmen respec trvely Fall moved right along as the soccer team prled up vrctorres losing only two out of ten games and once agaxn they won the Franklm County Soccer Crown As senlors we were responsrble for varrous act1v1t1es contrxved for the purpose of provrdmg entertalnment for our underclassmen and replenlshmg the depleted sources of our class treasury whrch would enable us to make our annual class trrp Aunt Susle Shoots the Works was selected for the junior Senior stage pro duction gxven before the Thanksgrvmg vacatron Betsy Zxmmerman was awarded the lead whrle Ray Hollenshead Shirley Ward Lors Sny der Mary Peck and Dorrs Sxpe recelved supportlng roles thus grvmg the class recognmon again rn the dra matlc held The boys basketball team had an unsuccessful season for the frrst tune rn a number of years but the gxrls compensated for them wrth a wmnrng comblnatlon The hrghlrght of therr season was the sound trouncmg they handed a highly rated Wfaynesboro sextette In the sprlng the Buchanan Chorus presented Gilbert 8: Sullrvans Mikado for the annual operetta Agaln the senlors were well represented several of them havmg leadlng roles New York was the unanlmous chorce of the group for thexr annual class trlp whrch was taken ln Aprrl Baseball and track had the enthuslastrc backmg of the student body and wlth the closrng days of our hlgh school career we were very busy rn preparatron for class nrght and for the big day graduatron Page Z9 , u . xx .
