William J. Furcron--Director of Athletics The athletic staff extends thanks and appreciation to the many patrons of our athletic games. Thanks for your interest and help in supporting the Dudley High School Athletic Program. The extent to which we are able to reach the desired goals which we have set up for the Dudley interscholastic program depends largely upon the interest, attention, and contributions shown and made by the community. Through our athletic program we are trying to provide a wholesome environment for our youth whereby they might gain valuable experiences that will make life more meaningful. We hope that the Dudley athlete develops dependability, cooperation, perseverance, endurance, courage, a healthy body, emotional stability, sportsmanship, and an appreciation for academic excellency. 206

That year we were State Runner-up. The team showed great desire, determination, and cooperation. The coaching staff thought that the togetherness displayed by the team was one of its major landmarks. Reginald Triplin set a school record by catching five touchdown passes in one game. Senior tackle Harvey Clanton was also outstanding for the Panthers. Both Reginald Triplin and Harvey Clanton made the All-State Team. Stahle Vincent represented the other half of the record; he threw the passes to Triplin. The Panthers are looking forward to a good year in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association next year. Several outstanding juniors arc returning: Albert ( rawford, Stahle Vincent. Frank Davis, James Smith, Robert Williams, Rifton Daniels, Charlie Howard, Murdock Brothers, Danny Bethea, and several others. 208
