Through the mechanics department head, the bus was kept on the road for 18 long, hard, years. The bus, known to the line of student bodies since its beginning CAREER AT DUDLEY as the Blue Goose, was purchased from the Re-harbcth Methodist Churcf) for $800.

ABOUT D.H.S. CAMPUS By retired Although the Goose was aged when we purchased it, its breakdowns were few. The most memorable one. I'm sure, to Mr. Macomson and the players at that time, was when the Goose conked out on High Point's road-side, by way of Concord. The bus was towed in at 7:00 A.M. the next morning. This was a long remembered, laughed about, as well as talked about experience. The Blue Goose travelled extensively throughout North Carolina. Its first trip was to Winston-Salem in 1948. Its last taken in 1966 was to Burlington. Asheville was the Gooses' longest trip, and the War Memorial Stadium, her shortest. Repairs were done on the Goose to keep her going, but none of these were because of accidents. So, as the Goose retires, her image is, and always will be a cherished memoir in all Dudleyites’ hearts. 187
