Front Row: 0. Turman, A. Bost (capt.); R. Smith, A. Purvis, D. Winchester. Second Row: D. Williams, C. Murdock, N. Gordon, C. Pennix, R. Daniels, W. N. Boyers, coach. The Dudley Wrestling Team has overcome many odds to post a fine record of 4 wins in 12 months in spite of the fact that they had to give us 10-15 points because of the failure to enter wrestlers in the 103 pound, 199 pound and the unlimited weight divisions. The victories came over such teams as: Atkins, Ben L. Smith, and Walter Williams or Burlington. The leading wrestler is Alfred Bost who wrestles in the 114 pound division. He has a record of 8 wins and 4 losses. Bost also serves as the Captain of the team with Rifton Daniels and Curtis Murdock serving as co¬ captains. Osbey Turman (95 pound division), David Williams (140 pounds) and Curtis Murdock (145 lbs.) have been impressive during the season, posting 7-5 records. The wrestlers are diligently practicing wrestling techniques in preparation for the tough competition ex¬ pected in the District Meet at Walter Williams High on February 16-17. If a wrestler finishes 1-2-3 in his weight division he is eligible to wrestle in the State Tournament February 22-23 at Parkland High School. The scoring system in wrestling is listed: Pin 5 points Decision—3 points Forfeit—5 points Disqualification—5 points 239

Jimmy Smith Speedy Jimmy Smith The fastest man on Dudley’s campus or any other campus, for that matter, is Jimmy Smith. Here are some of his track accomplishments. 1. In the triangular meet at William Penn, he won the 220 yard dash in 22.4. 2. He won the 220 yard dash in the city—country track and field meet in 21.9. 3. In his first trip to the state meet, he placed fourth in the 220 yard dash. 4. Last year he won the W.A. Golds- borough MVP award for track and field. We may expect big things from Jim Smith in the world of track. Golf Team The Dudley Golf Team un¬ der the direction of J. A. McKee and H. W. Holley per¬ formed quite well in their second year of competition in the central Four-A. In the Sectional Meet of the North Carolina High School Ath¬ letic Association held at Blair Park, High Point, the Pan¬ thers lack of experience eliminated them from further competition in the State Playoff. Our leading four¬ some compiled such course scores as listed: Joe Meadows-84. Melvin Thompson-88, Jerry Gregory-88, Billy Covington—92. The golf team participated in three meets during the season. They won two. Joseph Meadows was the team low medalist on the season with an 84 average. He also won the J.C. Tarpley MVP award for the year. 238
