Student Lawmakers Students, through the council’s activities, learn that sharing involves an exchange of ideas, an evaluation of the merits of those ideas, a search for new ideas and the ability to make compromises. The student council s major objective is to do what it can to promote, through active participation and experience, the qualities needed by good citizens in a democracy. The council at Dudley Senior High School gives the stu¬ dents an opportunity to do all that they can to develop into well-adjusted persons and competent citizens. 187

The Student Council The student council is potentially the most important activity in the entire student activity program with the possible exception of the homeroom. The effect of the council’s activities reaches every member of the school whether setting up the plans for beautification of the school, studying the qualifications of candi¬ dates for school offices, listening to campaign speeches, conducting an election or assisting with the deter¬ mination of certain school policies.
