Junior Achievement Club In this picture of a Junior Achievement Company is at work. This is the Carolina Western Company. It is made up of students from different high schools in the city. They are discussing a product which will be made and sold. Junior Achievement began in 1919 in Springfield, Massachusetts when Horace A. Moses, then president of Straithmore, acted on his belief that urban youngsters could profit from a kind of “Learn by doing” ex¬ perience that 4-H Clubs gave farm youth. Today there are more than 6,500 JA companies being organized each fall in hundreds of towns and cities in the United States and Canada. In JA you will get “on the job” experience, you have a chance for personal development, and for in¬ creasing leadership, ability. Many regional, local, and national awards are given in recognition of continu¬ ing their education. Junior Achievement gives you a head start-its up to you to take the initiative and make that head start count! 149
