SSSSSSSSSPSQ ™ - -wPooooooo Qc Oc Gg Oc Qg Qg Qg The forty-three member Reserve Officers Training Corps Club was sponsored by Sergeant Leon Roy and Sergeant James Lowe. The club consisted of members from the rifle and drill teams as well as students from other ROTC classes. The main event of the year, sponsored by the dub with money from candy sales, was the military ball. Choosing a disc jockey for musical entertainment, and deciding on the type of food to be served at the ball were respon- sibilities of club members. Dawn Williams. Miss ROTC of 1983. relinquished her down to the newly-elected Miss ROTC during the ball. The prestigious nomina- tion of Miss ROTC was decided by a popu- lar vote in the ROTC classes. The club also helped to organize activities the cadets participated in such as the annual picnic held in May. where the cadets took part in different sports. The girls' drill team. commanded by Artesa Washington, participates in the homecoming parade. Alfonzo Banks. Elgin Thomas. Byron Thomas. Thomas Hinson and Roderick Scott present the colors before a football game. Pawn Williams. Miss ROTC of 1983. smiles to the crowd during the homecoming parade. Sgt. J? j? ? a J? a «? ? ? Sponsored by Mrs. Myrtle Schofield, the Nutrition Committee had twelve members representing the student body. The purpose of the Nutrition Committee was to plan and provide tasty, nutritious, and eye-appealing meals for students throughout the year. The club met each club day to meet its goals which were to serve at least nine- ty-five percent of the students enrolled at Shanks and to provide a pleasing atmosphere in which students could enjoy their meals. The cafeteria became more pleasing to the eye when it was remodeled by the addition of new booths, tables, and chairs. Rachel Cooper represents the Foreign Language Club in the parade. Going to the Foreign Language room is a daily ritual for Glen Engle. Members of the Foreign Language Club are Sil- ting Rill Carman. Ricardo Yanei. and Pamela Wil Hams Standing Rachel Cooper. Mrs. Nanette Law- rence. and Glen Engle. The purpose of the Foreign Language Club was to promote a better under- standing and knowledge of the French and Spanish languages, people and countries and to emphasize French and Spanish conversational skills. The club kept busy the year with many activities including the North Florida Foreign Language Fair on December 10. 1983. The club also sponsored the Open Door exchange student from Buenos Aires and participated in a Spanish Dancing Festival at Florida Agricultural and Me- chanical University on November 11. 1983. The members of the club were French and Spanish students who were enrolled in the foreign language classes. Instead of electing officers, the club had rotating chairpersons who were in charge of various club pro- grams. Mrs. Nanette Lawrence spon- sored the club.
