Members of the Future Business Lead- ers of America Club, with their spon- sors. Mrs. Rena Jackson and Mrs. Lena Jones, participated in activities that were aimed at helping the club mem bers become effective workers in the business world. The first of these activi- ties was a FRLA rally which was held at FSU on October 14. 1983. The District Conference was also held in Tallahas- see on February 24. 1984. To raise money, the members of the club held bake sales, and rummage sales. The members learned skills that would help them become better prepared to active- ly participate in the world of work. The officers of the dub were Valinda McGill, president: Patricia Milton, vice- presidentGwen Shaw, secretary: Dana Taylor, treasurer: Horace Williams, par- liamentarian. Kathy Lanier, historian: and Renita Bowman, chaplain. The club was open to students who were en- rolled in at least one business course. Throughout their many activities, the Future Homemakers of America had sponsors. Mrs. Anna Paul and Mrs. Irene Green. The members of the dub participated in the senior citizens pro- ject. Senior citizens were given a Thanksgiving basket of treats. They also attended the district meeting which was held at FAMU on December 7, 1983. and helped with the par- ent award banquet, where outstanding students were recognized. They also participated in Teacher Appreciation Day and Flelp Your Neighbor Week. To raise money, they sponsored fashion shows, bake sales, car washes and a Flallo ween carnival. Angela Harris, and Tovetto Williams. Under the supervision of Elder E.L. Sheppard, the National Beta Club held its annual induction on December 13. 1983. Twenty five new inductees and forty-eight returning members partici- pated. These students had to maintain the characteristics of leadership, char- acter and service, and make honor roll at least twice a semester. On May 10- 11. 1984. several Beta members attend- ed the National Beta Club Convention in Orlando. Florida. During the year, the Beta Club sponsored several major events including a school campaign to increase sophomore performance on the State Student Assessment Test and a program to encourage academics by awarding students who made honor roll with a day off from school or a party.
