The Student Council, representative of all groups in the school, worked as a media- tor between the student body and the fac- ulty in order to create a more harmonious school atmosphere. Officiating over the sixty-member group were President Eric Sanders. Vice-president Felischa Redding. Treasurer Roderick Palmer. Secretary Stephanie Faison. Assistant Secretary Carolyn Johnson, and Parliamentarian Gregory Harris. Voted on by the entire student body, the Council officers had to maintain a C average and be free of office discipline. Each homeroom elected two representatives. The Council kept quite busy during the year with many ac- tivities that included the get acquainted dance, the election of homeroom officers and student council representatives, the Miss Shanks Pageant, intermural basket- ball games, the Valentine's dance, the Christmas dance, the Mock Miss Shanks Pageant, and the Student Council honors banquet. The Council planned several fund-raising activities in order to attend district and state meetings and to donate to charitable organizations such as Mus- cular Dystrophy and the American Heart Association. Mrs. Lit ha McGill and Miss Shirlean Thomas were sponsors for the or- ganization. Meetings were held on Tues- days and Thursdays from 8-.10 a.m. -8:25 a.m. Performing at the council-sponsored Miss Shanks Pageant are Sonja McSwain and Peter Lawson.
