Varsity And Junior Varsity Basketball Teams Win Games After losing several star players. Coach Joseph Barnes had to completely rebuild the eleven-member basketball team. Lettering for the team were Lamar Kirkland. AI Johnson, and Ronnie Telfair. Darryl Gennie played as guard. Reginald Dixon as forward. Jeffery March as center, and Joey Barnes as point guard. Other players who contributed to the team were Thad Bell. Hiram Cowart, and Craig Jackson. The team was again invited to participate in the Governor’s Cup in Tallahassee on December 27-30. Coaching the junior varsity team was Coach Vann Bryant. This team was made up of ten players who learned skills to prepare them to play on the varsity team. A major accomplishment was the defeat of one of their toughest opponents. Dothan, by a score of 50-37. To play on the basketball teams, the players had to maintain at least a 'C” average. Practices were held two hours daily to improve on skills, citizenship, and teamwork.

Lady Tigerettes Take Part In Thanksgiving Tournament The Girls Basketball Team relied heavily on teamwork, which led them to defeat Godby 152-19. Two of the ten members were sophomores, five were juniors, and three were seniors. The team started its season on November 23. 1983. under the direction of Coach Don White. They opened their season by finishing third in the Thanksgiving tournament in Ocala. Whigham. Georgia. Ocala Vanguard. Niceville and district rival Rickards were among the tough teams played. The girls went on to win a majority of their games. Coach White stressed to his young team members the importance of hard work. The team is young and inexperienced, but at the end. we will be one of the best teams in the state. said Coach White. A jump shot is easy for Lynn Harris. Coach White discusses the next move with the team during a time out. Barbara Miller takes a shot over her opponents. While her opponents look on. Jozell Graham receives the rebound. 65
