Joanette Barnes Is Queen Of Homecoming Festivities Joanette Barnes was crowned homecoming queen on November . 1983. at Corry Field. The daughter of Mrs. Lottie Barnes, she plans to attend Bethune-Cookman College to major in pediatrics. Miss Barnes was the president of the Senior Class, a member of FHA. and editor-in-chief of the school newspaper, the Tiger's Tale. Gregory Bostic leas her escort. Lafaye Goldwire. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Willie Goldwire. was chosen as first attendant. Her plans were to attend FAMU to major in chemistry. She is a member of the HELP club. Michael Mason was her escort. Cheryl Roberts, chosen as second attendant, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Roberts. She planned to attend T.C.C. and FAMU and major in accounting. Miss Roberts is the treasurer of the Senior Class, and a member of the Modern Dance Club and Beta Club. She was escorted by Ronnie Johnson. Tangela Moore, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earnest Moore, was chosen as third attendant. Her plans were to attend FAMU and major in speech therapy. She was a member of the Modern Dance Club and Shanks Gospel Choir. Her escort was Lamar Kirkland. Patricia Hinson, fourth attendant, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wash Hinson. She planned to attend FAMU and Bauder School of Fashion to major in fashion designing. She was a member of the Beta Club. Peter Lawson was her escort. These ladies were nominated by the football team. To qualify they had to have a C average, be free from office discipline, have no F in conduct, have a pleasing personality, be able to converse well with others, not be habitually tardy to school or class, and not be frequently absent from school. The entire student body voted on them to represent our school. 29

Homecoming Game, Dance Entertain Shanks Students A week of homecoming festivities ended on November II. 1983. with the Tigers hosting the Madison Cowboys for the homecoming game. The Mighty Tigers fulfilled the homecoming theme of Tigers Get It Right by clawing the Cowboys 37-0. During halftime. Miss Shanks and her court were presented and Miss Joanette Barnes was crowned homecoming queen. The marching band, including the majorettes, also performed during halftime to the tunes of Electricity and No Parking On The Dance Floor. After the game, the Student Council sponsored a dance in the gymnasium with Troy Austin serving as the disc-jockey. Also entertaining the dancers was a local band featuring Greg and Russell Watson. Jim Whitehead. Tim Sadbury. and Lance Hines. The Tigers continued to get it right at the dance, smurfing to the latest songs from Michael Jackson. Prince. Midnight Star and others.
