Student Council Sponsors Fifty-five Entry Parade As the R.O.T.C. Color Guard started from Ward's Lot. a hush fell over the gigantic crowd. The people had come to see the 1983-'84 Shanks homecoming parade. They were not turned away in disappointment, as ninety minutes worth of march- ing hands and colorful floats unfurled themselves before them. Though the size of the parade was smaller than that of the preceding year's, the glamour and pageantry stood unchanged. A total of fifty-five units participated in the parade, a mere fifteen short of last year’s number. The Shanks band, color guard, and drill teams gave outstanding performances, as expected. Many hours of hard work went into the preparation of the parade. Floats were built and cars and floats were decorated. Seniors, juniors, and sophomores alike put forth their effort to make the parade a success. The parade was organized by the student council and its sponsors. Miss Shirlean Thomas and Mrs. Litha McGill. Shank's and many other bands participated in the parade. Some of the others were Carter-Parra more. Quincy Middle, and Greensboro. Bill Carman sports the Spanish look for the For eign Language Club. Preparing the Mr. and Miss FHA car are the re- presentatives. Riding in one of the most clorful floats in the parade are the Lady of Distinction and her court. The Pep club shows us a real example of home coming spirit. 27
