j School Activities Inspire Students To Achieve Goals Extracurricular as well as curricular activities completed the lives of Shanks' students. While they were required to participate in science. English, math and other curricular courses, students also enjoyed extracurricular activities. Playing on the basketball, football, or volleyball teams, being a cheerleader, playing in the band, and being a member of the school choir were just a few of the activities available. Although curricular courses required much hard work and devotion, students put forth an extra effort to participate in activities which were of particu- lar interest to them. Schedules were tight, but these activities made the school year an enjoyable one. After every volleyball game. Cassandra Lee al- ways comes up as the winning server. Providing entertainment for the Miss Shanks Pag eant is Janelle Robinson. While doing detention. Joseph Barnes empties the trash. After winning the guestimation contest. Night-Life Activities Add Excitement To Student Life High school students have always found themselves involved in some type of night-life activity. Popular spots included St. Hebron s Cat Disco. Patches Skating Rink, the Tallahassee-Leon County Civic Center, video game rooms, or movies. These recreational places kept students occupied and gave them an opportunity to become better acquainted with friends. When the sun went down, students headed for their favorite entertainment spots. Although sports activities took up much time for athletic students, the reward came when they got the opportunity to perform before their fellow classmates. Students enjoyed supporting these athletes at home as well as away. Even the unfortunate few who were not able to go out on the town enjoyed evenings at home watching television with family and friends. Brenda knecht always ends her evening playing Ms. Pac-Man at Pizza Hut. After practicing and participating in football. Lyndon Williams and Roosevelt Johnson have little time for other night life activities. 19
