Band Participates In Marching Contest Under the direction of Mr. Charles Burns, the James A. Shanks High School Band received an excellent rating at the District II Marching Contest in Tallahassee. The band was lead by Head Drum Major Timothy Hughes and his assistants Edward Dixon and Jeffrey Logan. The band helped boost student spirit dur- ing football games and pep rallies, the band also participated in the Shanks and Havana homecoming parades and various assemblies. Mr. Charles Burns explains a music assignment to band members. Jarvis Rittman and Robert Hicks perform a routine with the band during halftime. Band members wait for practice to start. 88

Color Guard Marches In Local Parades James A. Shanks' Color Guard, under the supervision of Miss Alison Burns, practiced many hours to achieve their goals. The Color Guard participated in Shanks' homecoming parade, the senior citizens parade, and Havana's homecoming parade. Pep Club Displays Much School Spirit Go Tigers! Go! was one of the cheers shouted by Pep Club 3. The club, under the leadership of Mrs. Elaine Richardson, displayed school spirit during pep rallies and in the homecom- ing parade. The club consisted of many members who helped the students develop school spirit. Club officers were presi- dent. LaFaye Goldwire; vice-president, Jozell Graham; secre- tary. Lalanza Matthews; treasurer. Traci Dasher; and parlia- mentarian. Charles Brown. Sonja Powell was chosen Miss Pep Club. Yvette Pouncey and Shleen Humphrey plan for a pep rally. Stephanie Anderson gets prepared to display her school spirit. Pep Club members get ready to cheer. Members of the Pep Club gather to practice cheers. 89
