J.V. Football Tigers Shanks players warm up on the field. Anticipation builds before the game. Learn The Game The Junior Varsity Tigers, under the direction of Head Coach Bobby Shaw and assistant coaches Anthony Powell and Henry Thomas, ended their season with two wins and three losses. The teams they beat were Godby and Lincoln, but unfortunate- ly they lost to Leon twice and Marianna once. The J.V. Tigers showed skill in their diligent wins and graceful losses. 61

Basketball Team Stresses Practice Practice, practice, practice, this is the one word that the 1981- 82 Varsity Basketball team will never forget. Coach Joseph Barnes expected every player to do his best. Daily practice sessions were held for two hours after school throughout the basketball season and daily during sixth period. The fighting Tigers shared the gym with the girls' basketball team. They competed in five tournaments in addition to the regularly- scheduled games. The team, consisting of four seniors and seven juniors, united age and experience and produced a well- rounded and balanced team. Qualifications for being a mem- ber of the team were maintaining a good grade point average and having a variety of basketball skills. Players ranged in height from 5'I I” to 6’5 . Team captain was Calvin Butler. Coach Barnes looks into a promising future for his Tigers. Stanley Dixon tests his jumping ability while making two points. No one has to show Charles Gennie how to make a basket; he knows all the right moves. 63
