Our stately Color Guard consists of David Coleman. Freddie Andrews. Kevin Trim and Danny Meeks. Homecoming Tigers Shake 'Em Up The fact that Homecoming. October 16. 1981. was a teacher's planning day did not dampen that Tiger Spirit! Many students came to school anyway to practice routines or to get that float looking just right for the annual homecoming parade through downtown Quincy. Sixty-nine units participated in the parade including bands, clubs, and individuals from schools all over Gadsden County. Later that night, despite all that Tiger Spirit, the football team was defeated by the Leon Lions 49-14. However, the Tigers put up a good fight. At the homecoming dance, sponsored by the Student Council. Shanks' students really did shake 'em up.'' following the homecoming theme. Tim Goodson. acting as disc jockey, played the Top 10 favor- ites and everyone enjoyed an evening of dancing. Angie Brown and Tani Howard express their Tiger spirit.

Valarie Washington Is Homecoming Queen Valarie Washington was crowned Homecoming Queen for the 1981-82 school term on October 16. 1981. Valarie. a Beta Club member, enjoyed being a Candystriper and playing softball. Other contestants competing for the title were Wanda Green. Glenda Fields. Lynn Taylor and Melissa Ryais. First Attendant Wanda Green served as president of the Beta Club and as a member of Who's Who Among American High School Students. Glenda Fields, second attendant, enjoyed reading and socializing. Lynn Taylor, a member of Quill and Scroll, liked photography. Melissa Ryais’ hobbies were sewing, crocheting and cooking.
