JROTC Competes In Drill Rifle Meets Sergeant Major Leon J. Roy and Master Sergeant James Lowe were JROTC instructors. The drill team and color guard par- ticipated in Shanks' homecoming parade. The drill team marched in the Pecan Festival, held at Albany. Georgia, and the Forest Festival Parade, in Perry. Florida. In addition to these activities, the boys' and girls' drill teams competed in meets held at Ft. Rucker, and Ft. Benning. the North Florida Drill Meet and the County Drill Meet. The boys’ rifle team participated in all county meets with Greensboro. Chattahoo- chee and Havana. Army officials came to meet the JROTC at Shanks during the Annual Federal Inspection held in February. JROTC students, files, records, and arms rooms, were inspect- ed by these officials. The students enjoyed the Annual ROTC Ball held on March S. Sergeant Major Lowe discusses an assignment with Lyndon Williams and Marilyn Hughes. Sergeant Roy listens as his students discuss an upcoming meet. Felecia Fudge calls out an order to the girls’ drill team. 105

Afro-American Club Explains History The Afro-American Club, headed by Mr. Carl Daniels, dealt with aspects of the life and history of the Negro. The purpose of the club. Mr. Daniels said, was to stimulate interests of the Negro's cause and to discuss objectives relating to black his- tory. Students in the Afro-American Club participated in activities relating to National Black History Month in Febru- ary. They also joined in community projects such as the Black Culture Youth Program which reviewed many points of the Negro's life both in the past and today and the Black Culture Interest Group. Kim Shaw expresses her views on Martin Luther King. Jr. Members of the Afro-American Club are Mr. Daniels. Alicia McNealy. Jeanie McNealy. Kim Shaw. Carla Holloman. Terrence Shaw. Felecia Allen. Rhonda White. Lynn Johnson, and May Dean Williams. Mr. Daniels discusses plans for fund-raising projects with Rhonda White. Earnestine Pringley. Steve Warner. Austin Middleton, and Alicia McNealy get ready for a club meeting.
