VICA Members Enjoy Joining Contests The Vocational Industrial Clubs of America were headed by Mr. James Toole. Industrial Education classes such as small engine repair, carpentry, plumbing, and electric wiring were required to be enrolled in the Vica Club. One highlight for students enrolled in Industrial Education classes was the local competition to nominate candidates who could move on to state, national and international competitions. The students viewed films about industrial education and took field trips to Tallahassee for the Area Skill Contest and the Leadership Contest held at Lively Vocational School on February 20. Students also participated in donating a food basket to the needy at Christmastime. Reginald Baker shows his carpentry skills. Members of the VICA Club are Front Row Freddie McGhee. Willie Jackson. DECA Students Gain Retailing Skills Mr. Phillip Eckstadt headed the Distributive Education Clubs of America which consisted of forty members from Shanks. Chattahoochee. Havana and Greensboro. The purpose of the DECA club was to develop young people's knowledge in re- tailing. To be in DECA. a student had to be enrolled in either the marketing or merchandising retailing classes. Students gained more knowlege in retailing by taking field trips to large shopping centers in Tallahassee and Panama City. Leon Roberts and bobby thompson enjoy the annual VICA-DECA party. Members of the DECA Club are Front Row Diane Thigpen. Monica Smart. Helen Bivins. Brenda Williams. Glenda Richardson. Maxine Wilson, and Shar- on Barnes. Back Row Annie Doris McMillian. Afro-American Club Explains History The Afro-American Club, headed by Mr. Carl Daniels, dealt with aspects of the life and history of the Negro. The purpose of the club. Mr. Daniels said, was to stimulate interests of the Negro's cause and to discuss objectives relating to black his- tory. Students in the Afro-American Club participated in activities relating to National Black History Month in Febru- ary. They also joined in community projects such as the Black Culture Youth Program which reviewed many points of the Negro's life both in the past and today and the Black Culture Interest Group. Kim Shaw expresses her views on Martin Luther King. Jr. Members of the Afro-American Club are Mr. Daniels. Alicia McNealy. Jeanie McNealy. Kim Shaw. Carla Holloman. Terrence Shaw. Felecia Allen. Rhonda White. Lynn Johnson, and May Dean Williams. Mr. Daniels discusses plans for fund-raising projects with Rhonda White. Earnestine Pringley. Steve Warner. Austin Middleton, and Alicia McNealy get ready for a club meeting.
