HEADMASTER’S MESSAGE Our era is one of enormous historical signifi- cance. Giant strides in the social, economic, and physical sciences make our times truly revolution- ary. These advances are due to the extraordinary drive and resourcefulness — the potentia — of our people, qualities prophetic of the eventual fulfill- ment of the goals and ideals that we are still struggling to attain. This Year Book’s theme — “Potentia” — and its dedication to the memory of our martyred Presi- dent Kennedy, shall remind the Class of 1964 that in each of us is a mine of incalculable potentiality for good — that it remains our daily responsibility to tap these inexhaustible resources with courage and enthusiasm for service to our fellow man. These were the ideals that dominated the thoughts and actions of our late President. Through the continuing inspiration of his heroic virtues, we can, by imitating them, improve our own lives and strengthen family, community, and country. EDWARD F. BRICKLEY Headmaster VALEDICTORY TO THE HEADMASTER AND MEMBERS OF THE FACULTY OF JAMAICA PLAIN HIGH SCHOOL We the Class of “64” sincerely appreciate the message of our headmaster, Mr. Brickley, which is inspiring and appropriate. We are grateful for the earnest efforts of the faculty of Jamaica Plain High School for awakening us to the realization that developing our creative instincts and intellectual inclinations is essential to our becoming constructive contributors to our country. It is truly fitting and most proper that we manifest our deep regard for our late President, John F. Kennedy, by emulating his ideals with the same courage and enthusiasm that he displayed and exemplified for our nation’s good. Appropriately we use the title, Potentia, Power: that which we students have to give, and we must, and that which Mr. Kennedy gave and that to the ultimate degree. Margo Lee “64” 4
